Feedback was gathered on Supported Living services to help inform the Northwest Territories (NWT) Supported Living Review which is currently underway.
The NWT Supported Living Review intends to define a person and family-centered, culturally safe, Supported Living model the best suits the NWT.
Public survey was live from October 25, 2021 – November 17, 2021
Public engagement sessions were held in Inuvik, Norman Wells, Behchokǫ̀, Yellowknife, Fort Smith, Hay River and Fort Simpson from November 29, 2021 – December 8, 2021, and through virtual public engagement sessions on December 9, 13 and 14, 2021.
Additionally, input was sought through interviews with persons with disabilities, family members/ caregivers of persons with disabilities, service providers, non-government organizations, Indigenous governments, and GNWT executives from August 2021 to January 2022.
Next Steps
Findings from the engagement were released through the NWT Supporting Living Program Review Report. The report includes 33 recommendations related to:
Scope of services;
Projected resource requirements;
Standards and oversight;
Access and equity;
Workforce development;
Client focused services; and
Interdepartmental collaboration.
The recommendations will assist with decisions related to program scope, structure and oversight, future investments, and allocation of resources in SL. Addressing these recommendations will enable the Department of Health and Social Services to provide the recommended person and family-centered, culturally safe, and inclusive SL services model in the NWT.
