Aurora College is applying to deliver a General Studies Diploma program within the Northwest Territories, with a proposed effective date of September 2024.
Aurora College’s proposed General Studies Diploma program provides students with a broad liberal arts and sciences education with a focus on northern, Indigenous content. Students in General Studies are encouraged to embrace academic breadth in both knowledge and skills, develop the habit of analytical and critical thought, and recognize and respect multiple ways of knowing. The program offers a variety of courses from which students choose their own path, including continuing into a university degree or related program.

In December 2022, the NWT’s first-ever Post-Secondary Education Act (Act) and Regulations came into effect. When post-secondary education institutions want to provide a new post-secondary education program in the NWT, they complete a System Coordination Review Application. The application is publicly posted by the GNWT for 15 business days to allow the public and NWT post-secondary education institutions to provide feedback that will be considered in the review process.
