The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) was seeking input from residents in Tulita on the Fish and Fish Habitat Offsetting Plan for the Great Bear River Bridge project. As part of the regulatory approvals needed for construction, the GNWT is required to get Authorization under the Fisheries Act from the Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada. The proposed Fish and Fish Habitat Offsetting Plan includes the methods that the GNWT is considering using to improve habitat in other areas near the Great Bear River Bridge project. The GNWT was seeking feedback from the public on areas and methods to restore fish habitat.

Tulita, NT April 25, 2024, at 6:00p.m. – 8:00p.m.
Community Arena
Door prizes and dinner were provided.
Submit written feedback by email
NWT residents were invited to submit their feedback on the project by emailing: INF_Communications@gov.nt.ca with their input by May 15, 2024.
Background
The proposed bridge will be built 800 metres from the confluence of the Great Bear River and the Mackenzie River in the Sahtu Region of the Northwest Territories. A permanent bridge will extend the winter road season and provide efficiencies for industry. Improved access between communities will provide more social opportunities such as family, recreation, and sporting interactions. It will also improve access to health care facilities and economic opportunities.
Next Steps
Feedback collected at the sessions and by email will inform the development of the Fish and Fish Habitat Offsetting Plan for the Great Bear River Bridge construction project.
