Background
The NWT is going through economic changes as diamond mines slow down, costs rise, and debt grows.
The GNWT is focusing on careful spending and building a stronger, more stable future for everyone. Despite the challenges we face, the GNWT forecasts an operating surplus, helped by cautious spending, limited new taxes, and a focus on efficiency.
The Budget Dialogues 2025 are an opportunity to share your views on how the GNWT can ensure every dollar is spent in the best way to support the Priorities of the 20th Legislative Assembly and our territory's needs.
Next Steps
The 2026-2027 Budget will be tabled during the Feb/Mar 2026 Session of the 20th Legislative Assembly. A What We Heard Report summarizing key findings and recommendations will also be released to the public in Fall 2025. The information will be used to help ensure that every dollar spent translates into meaningful improvements in the daily lives of our residents.
