Overview
The Government of the Northwest Territories is seeking participation from Internationally Educated Nurses (IEN) who are residents of the NWT but are not currently licensed to work in their trained profession as a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse.
The Government of the Northwest Territories has heard there are IENs currently living in the NWT who have experienced barriers to licensure and registration to practice in the NWT. This survey will provide the Government of the Northwest Territories with information on how many IENs are in the NWT but not working in their trained profession, and the types of barriers they are experiencing. The Government of the Northwest Territories wants to hear from IENs who currently reside in the NWT to better understand the number of unregistered IENs currently in the territory, their barriers to practice in their trained profession, and their background practice experience.
The Government of the Northwest Territories is conducting this survey to better understand the barriers faced by IENs residing in the territory. This survey is a needs assessment to identify the challenges faced by IENs and is for informational purposes only. At this time, we are unable to commit to developing new programs; however, the information gathered through this survey will help inform future recommendations for the Health and Social Services system.

Background
The NWT Nursing Profession Act gives CANNN (College and Association of Nurses of the Northwest Territories and Nunavut) the authority to create bylaws to regulate nurses and establish the entry-to-practice qualifications required to practice in the NWT. These bylaws ensure the integrity of the nursing profession, ensuring patient safety while establishing procedures for professional conduct, and guide the operation of the College in both the Northwest Territories and Nunavut.

Now the engagement period has ended, the Government of the Northwest Territories will review the survey feedback and publish a summary of results.
