The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment (ITI) is working to put Regional Economic Development Plans (REDPs) in place to encourage and guide economic growth in in varying sectors across the Northwest Territories.

The development of these REDPs supports the GNWT’s mandate commitment to: Increase economic diversification by supporting growth in non-extractive sectors and setting regional diversification targets.

Individual Economic Development Plans will be developed for each of the Beaufort-Delta, Sahtu, North Slave, Tłı̨chǫ, South Slave and Dehcho Regions.

The GNWT is using both targeted and public engagement processes to identify and define the economic opportunities and challenges that exist in each of the identified regions.

As a key stakeholder in the economic growth and diversification of your region, you are invited to contribute your insight, experiences and perspectives to the GNWT’s understanding of the economic opportunities and challenges that exist.

Please complete the following survey. Your responses will help the GNWT prepare for the public discussions that are planned in your region. Information obtained from the surveys will be kept confidential.

For your information and reference, a discussion paper, regional profiles and various analytical documents are included in the menu.

This is the second phase of a multi-phased approach by which the GNWT is researching, gathering information and engaging with NWT stakeholders and residents to develop its regional economic plans.

Public engagement sessions will take place in September and October In the following communities:

  • Inuvik
  • Norman Wells
  • Fort Simpson
  • Fort Smith
  • Hay River
  • Behchokǫ̀, and
  • Yellowknife

We look forward to hearing from all NWT stakeholders across all regions. Additional details will be made available as they are finalized.
