Northwest Territories businesses are invited to participate and share information that will help the Government of the Northwest Territories better understand trade activity, business readiness, and opportunities for growth across the territory.
The survey seeks feedback on business readiness for emerging economic opportunities associated with major infrastructure, defence, and economic development projects expected in the Northwest Territories.
Have Your Say
The survey will help the GNWT better understand how businesses are currently importing and exporting goods and services, the challenges they face in accessing new markets, and the supports that may be needed to strengthen trade and economic participation.
Businesses are also invited to share their perspectives on workforce capacity, access to financing, preparedness, barriers to growth, and express their thoughts on supports that would help them successfully participate in future opportunities.
All Northwest Territories businesses are encouraged to participate, whether they are currently importing or exporting, interested in expanding into new markets, or focused on growing their local operations.
The NWT economy is entering a period of change, and the GNWT is taking active steps to understand it. As diamond mine operations wind down, new resource opportunities come online, and federal investments in defence and infrastructure accelerate, the territory must be prepared to pursue. Shifts in international and domestic trade are affecting economies everywhere, and the NWT is no exception.
That makes this the right time to strengthen our understanding of the current economic environment. Hearing directly from NWT businesses is the most reliable way to do that. What businesses are experiencing, where they see growth, and what is standing in their way will shape how the GNWT responds.
NWT businesses are the priority. The GNWT is committed to helping them maintain strong access to established markets while opening doors to new and emerging ones. Focused engagement, collaborative communications, readiness programming, and pilot projects will support businesses, workers, and communities through this transition. Where capacity needs to grow, the GNWT is actively looking at new and innovative ways to deliver that support, including changes to its business support programs.
Next Steps
Information gathered will help inform programs, services, and policy development that support Northwest Territories businesses. This survey will close on August 30, 2026.
For more information, contact the GNWT’s Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment (ITI) at: ITICommunications@gov.nt.ca.
