Fire SS052 was being actioned consistently since initial attack on August 2, which was executed within two hours of discovery. It was not a monitored fire - it received action whenever conditions  (i.e. visibility, fire behaviour, and crew safety) allowed. That includes August 11-13.

The biggest threat the fire posed to that point was to Kakisa and Highway 1. Direct attack had held the eastern and northern flanks closest to Enterprise and the fire had not grown for several days leading up to August 13. It remained more than 30km away from Enterprise.

Between August 11 and 13, there were severe challenges in flying due to poor visibility due to smoke, which further challenged the work managing this fire.

The wind event which came saw fire travel double the worst-case scenarios predicted in part due to winds exceeding forecast values. Instead of 50-55km/h winds, we saw them reach 90+km/h. Unfortunately, this wind took the other parts of the fire that were not held and pushed it around the work firefighters and air attack had accomplished on the aforementioned eastern and northern flanks.

This led to the fire pushing to Enterprise, Paradise Gardens, Patterson Road, and Highway 2.
